About us

At Essence of Email, we partner with brands to build retention marketing programs that grow revenue through strategy.

We're a boutique team of strategists, planners, and designers who care deeply about the craft: smart lifecycle architecture, sharp creative, clean execution, and measurable results.

About the role

We're looking for a Klaviyo Email Specialist (eCommerce) to help architect, brief, build, monitor, and optimize automated lifecycle journeys for our clients.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy, creative direction, client communication, and technical execution. You'll translate client goals into clear flow maps, thoughtful briefs, segmented journeys, testing plans, and performance insights — making sure every automated touchpoint has a job, a reason, and a measurable outcome.

You'll be a strong fit if you think in systems, care about the details, understand how email and SMS drive retention, and enjoy turning data into better customer experiences.

What you'll get from us

  • Remote-first work

Work from home or wherever you do your best work.

  • A growing days-off package

Vacation that evolves the longer you're with us.

  • A specialized team

People who live and breathe email, SMS, lifecycle strategy, deliverability, creative, and analytics.

  • Clear processes and high standards

Detailed guidelines, structured workflows, and a team that cares about doing the work properly.

  • Room to sharpen your craft

Learn from client performance, competitive research, A/B tests, platform updates, and the evolving retention marketing landscape.

What you'll be working on

  • Architecting email and SMS flows

Conceptualize, map, and maintain automated lifecycle journeys such as welcome series, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, replenishment, winback, VIP, sunset, and reactivation flows.

  • Building strategic flow maps

Create clear, actionable flow maps that define triggers, audience logic, timing, exclusions, message goals, channel mix, and customer journey logic.

  • Writing creative briefs

Brief copy and design teams with the context they need to create on-brand, conversion-focused, customer-aware emails and SMS messages.

  • Reviewing copy and design

Evaluate creative work for strategy, clarity, brand fit, lifecycle relevance, accessibility basics, and conversion potential.

  • Setting up and maintaining flows inside ESPs

Build, update, QA, and troubleshoot flows in platforms such as Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Customer.io, or similar tools.

  • Managing segmentation and personalization logic

Use customer behavior, purchase history, engagement, lifecycle stage, and first-party data to make journeys more relevant.

  • Running QA before launch

Check links, UTMs, triggers, filters, segments, timing, dynamic content, mobile rendering, SMS logic, and overall flow integrity before anything goes live.

  • Monitoring performance

Track how flows perform across key metrics such as revenue per recipient, placed order rate, click rate, conversion rate, unsubscribe rate, deliverability signals, and customer movement through the journey.

  • Planning and running A/B tests

Develop testing ideas, set up experiments, monitor results, and turn learnings into practical improvements.

  • Communicating with clients

Present flow concepts, explain strategic decisions, gather feedback, and keep clients aligned on what's being launched, tested, and improved.

  • Supporting broader retention strategy

Help turn client goals, performance data, seasonality, and customer behavior into smarter lifecycle recommendations.

What we're looking for

  • Strong organizational skills

You can manage multiple clients, deadlines, briefs, assets, flow builds, and feedback loops without losing the thread.

  • Email marketing experience

Hands-on experience with automated email flows, lifecycle marketing, CRM, retention marketing, or eCommerce email programs.

  • ESP confidence

Comfortable working inside platforms like Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Customer.io, HubSpot, Braze, or similar ESPs. Klaviyo experience is a strong plus.

  • Good design and copy judgment

You don't need to be a designer or copywriter, but you know when an email feels off, unclear, too generic, too busy, or misaligned with the brand.

  • Analytical mindset

Comfortable reviewing performance data, spotting patterns, forming hypotheses, and recommending what to test next.

  • Technical attention to detail

You can handle flow setup, segmentation rules, trigger logic, exclusions, QA, and troubleshooting without cutting corners.

Nice to have

  • Experience with eCommerce or DTC brands.

  • Familiarity with Shopify events and customer data.

  • Experience working in an agency environment.

  • Understanding of deliverability basics, consent, list hygiene, and engagement segmentation.

Location and hours

Location: Fully remote.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, with core working hours aligned to the ET timezone.
