Most agencies try to be everything to everyone — social, paid ads, SEO, email, content. We made a different choice. From day one, Essence of Email has been laser-focused on owned marketing channels: email and SMS.

That singular focus means we've accumulated thousands of hours of deep platform expertise, built proprietary frameworks for strategy and analysis, and developed pattern recognition that only comes from working on 450+ eCommerce brands across every vertical.

We intentionally keep our client roster small. Every engagement gets principal-level strategic involvement — not a junior account manager reading from a playbook. Your brand's retention marketing program is too important for anything less.

2013

Founded Essence of Email with a simple thesis: eCommerce brands need retention marketing specialists, not generalists.

2016

Klaviyo established its agency partnership program; Essence of Email was in the inaugural class of six agencies — a relationship that continues to deepen.

2017

Crossed 100 brands served.

2019

Expanded into SMS marketing.

2020

Crossed 300 brands served.

2021

Launched The Better Creative, focused on premium email design and creative production for retention programs.

2025
